Everything You Need To Know About Industrial Heaters
This winter the weather hasn’t been too cold, yet. Nothing that a good hat and robust pair of gloves can’t fix.
But winter is coming (are we tired of that phrase yet?); January is starting to feel more bitter, and we can see enquiries ramping up as sites are looking to hire heaters asap. So, here’s our guide to what heaters we have, what conditions they suit and when to use them;
Industrial Fan Heaters
Fan heaters are best placed in workshops, warehouses, halls and stores. They use recycled air throughout their system and the temperature is controlled by an internal thermostat.
Industrial fan heaters are often not the only heating source – these are drafted in in the coldest months to boost extra areas of the work environment, possibly where the installed heating system doesn’t quite reach, or known cold spots.
The fans on our fan heaters are designed to keep running, even after they’ve been turned off, to allow the elements to cool.
An Industrial Fan Heater is one of the more cost-effective ways to heat your working area. As our heaters are 110v they conform to HSE regulations regarding electrical safety in the workplace operating from a 110v centre tapped to earth (CTE) supply system; ensuring that the maximum voltage to earth does not exceed 55v. All our Industrial Fan heaters are portable. Another job for the apprentice.
Infra-Red Heaters
Infrared heaters use electromagnetic radiation to transfer energy. Yes, they do. Infra-red heaters do not heat air, they heat objects. When infra-red rays touch a surface, heat energy is released, regardless of the surrounding air temperature. This is why we are warmer in the Sun from the infrared rays vs the shade, where the rays are blocked out (you can keep that one).
The same applies to using infrared heaters on work sites; they warm the areas in front of them. These heaters aren’t designed to heat a large space. They work instantly, without the need to warm up and they stop giving out heat as soon as they’re turned off. They’re silent, they’re healthy in that they don’t add any pollutants to the air, nor do they take anything out of the air.
Infrared heaters are great for zonal heating, and thus, don’t waste time heating areas that are not needed. They use less energy and are therefore more cost efficient. One of their downsides is that garish orangery glow, adding to light pollution, like a David Dickinson, watching you from the corner.
Ceramic Radiant Heater
Ceramic radiant heaters are great for large indoor spaces such as warehouses and garages. They generally use convection to carry the heat forward, unlike their infrared cousins who only heat objects and provide you with that consistent perma-tan orange glow, thus reducing light pollution. They heat up quickly and their plastic casing surrounding them stays cool. They are effective and efficient at heating spaces. They should be considered for larger, enclosed spaces, when infra-red heaters will not be as effective. All our Ceramic Radiant Heaters are 110v.
415v Space Heaters
A 3 phase 415v space heaters have high air volume units and are capable for ducting through outlets or long distances.
Space heaters are suitable for heating extremely large areas such as sites, warehouses, hangers, garages. An industrial space heater is portable, easy to use and is perfect for a temporary heating solution for any large site.
LPG (Propane) and Gasoil Space Heaters
Liquefied petroleum gas or LPG is a mixture of propane and butane gas, which is a waste product when refining petroleum. LPG Space heaters burn with hardly any odour. We have a variety of heaters available dependent on the space you want to heat. LPG heaters are very popular on site for keeping the team warm and aiding drying times. Sites that use LPG heaters should always have adequate ventilation due to the flame that will deplete oxygen levels in the air.
GasOil (also known as Red Diesel) Space heaters are the same as the LPG space heaters, they just use a different fuel to power them. 98% heat effective, cost effective, fully portable and need no installation. These are also ideal for large construction sites.
If you want to watch your carbon footprint then LPG is more environmentally friendly than GasOil and is a cleaner fuel to burn. Top tip – don’t be tempted to use Red Diesel in your car, unless you want a hefty fine and possible prison sentence.
LPG Bin Heaters
The construction industry’s winter mate. These bad boys are great for heating warehouses, factories and drying out buildings. They don’t require any electricity and are fully portable (but don’t move it whilst it’s in use. You would think we wouldn’t need to make that point), allowing you to move them to where they’re needed most. They provide an even distribution of heat and are cleaner burning when using LPG fuel. We check all our bin heaters to ensure they are fit for purpose and comply with safety regulations. They are low cost and extremely efficient at heating. We like bin heaters.
LPG Cabinet Heaters
Cabinet heaters are fully contained, with the LPG canister housed inside the heater. On castors, they are easily moved from one place to another. Cabinet heaters are a great choice for halls, offices and small warehouses as, not only do they heat the air using convection, but also produce radiant heat due to the ceramic tile. Treat your staff and give them a double whammy with cabinet heaters.
